The production of smoking tobacco has recently been rising and was put at 5,148 tons in 2014, 56% ahead of output in 1990. In 2012, Parliament passed a bill to increase the specific excise duty rates on cigarettes and smoking tobacco in January 2012, 2013, and 2014.
