By Region: Western part of India is the biggest market for water treatment industries accounting for ~% of the market in 2017. Heavy penetration of industrialization in states of Maharashtra and Gujarat was the key driver. Southern states were the second largest contributors with ~% market share. It was followed by Northern India especially after announcement of projects to clean Ganga and Supreme Court ruling on pollution control. Eastern part of India has minimum contribution in water treatment due to poor implementation and low industrial penetration.

By Industry: Thermal power plants were the largest users of water treatment facilities in India. The country relies on coal based power plants to meet more than 60% of it electricity needs. It was followed by iron and steel industry. Rising demand for packaged food and beverages has increased the demand for water treatment in this industry. India has emerged as Pharma hub promoting large scale use of high grade treated water in this industry. Majority of the new contracts are in small scale segment are garnered by local companies.
