Government Initiatives and Integrated Refinery and Petrochemicals Approach to Influence Focus to the Egypt Naphtha Market: Ken Research

September 2014

Naphtha is primarily utilized in production of fuels such as gasoline and as feedstock for petrochemicals production. The potential factors affecting naphtha production and exports in Egypt are oil production, prices and demand in refineries, petrochemicals and chemical industry followed by diversifying product portfolio obtained from naphtha. Egypt affects the countries across the globe, as the country exports its entire naphtha production.

Egypt solely produces naphtha from its refining activities. The naphtha produced by the refinery is marketed to countries in Middle East, Europe and to several Arab and African countries. Egypt has started developing a USD 4.8 billion plan for the construction of Tahrir petrochemical complex with installation of 4 million ton/yr naphtha cracker to produce polymers and other products. Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) Company is the leading producer of naphtha in the country.

“Egypt is gradually moving from ethane as feedstock to naphtha for its petrochemicals production. Egypt Government is working in the direction to support downstream activities such as construction of Tahrir Petrochemical complex based on naphtha cracker. The government is working with national export credit agencies to inflate the financing of the Tahrir petrochemical project. The oil & gas Exploration & Production (E&P) activities are expected to increase in the country. Moreover, it is estimated that the country’s expanding petrochemical business and increasing demand of naphtha is likely to flourish both indigenous naphtha production and exports. - According to the Research Analyst, Ken Research.
