Summary

Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury contributes total of 58% of the total New Zealand's population. Auckland remains the most economically active region of the country

Synopsis

Services remains the major sector accounting for 71.7% of New Zealand's economy. Services are followed by mining, manufacturing and utilities which account for 16.8% of the economy in 2017.

Scope

The overall NZX 50 index exhibits an upward trend over the last one year with an annual growth of 17.1%. As of 22nd February 2018, it stood at 8,267.9

FDI inflows recovered in 2016 with improvement in macroeconomic outlook. Australia remains major provider of FDI inflows accounting for 29.7% of the total FDI stocks in the country

The NZ government announced Ten Year Capital Intentions Plan (CIP) in 2016. This includes a pipeline of USD100.9 bn (3,823 projects) worth of infrastructure projects over the next decade. Projects are distributed among central government (219 projects worth USD40.9 bn), local government (3,559 projects worth USD51.1 bn) and private (45 projects worth USD9.2 bn).
