Renewable Power Market, Policy Changes, June 2015
June 2015 saw a number of policy changes in the global renewable power market. In North America, the US state of Hawaii introduced a policy requiring 100% of its energy to be produced from renewable sources by 2045, while Montana received a senate hearing for a bill that streamlines the permitting process involved in the development of renewables. New York City announced a strategy to boost renewable growth and reduce carbon pollution, and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that it will reintroduce incentives for farmers, among others, through the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP). In Asia-Pacific, the state of Victoria in Australia is driving investments in the renewable sector following planning changes, and the city of Adelaide has implemented incentives for renewables and energy storage. In India, plans were announced to augment renewable energy capacity and increase solar Photovoltaic (PV) capacity from 20 Gigawatts (GW) to 100 GW by 2022. In Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, the UK's climate change targets experienced a setback after the decision to remove subsidies for new onshore wind farm projects, and the Scottish government introduced a consultation on permitted development rights for non-domestic solar panels and domestic air source heat pumps, while Botswana launched a solar power project bid invitation.
