India was observed as the 4th largest producer of pesticides in the world after the US, Japan and China and the second largest producer of pesticides in the entire Asian region during FY’2015. The growth in the volume of pesticides consumed in some regions has mainly been through increased usage of pesticides, affecting productivity and production of crops such as paddy and wheat. It was observed that in the time period from FY’2010-FY’2015, the contributions of the unorganized sector to pesticide production declined from ~% in FY’2010 to ~% in FY’2015.
