Synopsis
Financial intermediation, real estate and business activities contributed majorly (24.8%) to the GVA in 2017, followed by mining, manufacturing and utilities (17.3%) and wholesale and retail trade (12.7%). All the three sectors are forecasted to grow by 6.1%, 6.6% and 6.55, respectively, in 2018.
Scope
- Iceland has an excellent air connectivity with other parts of the world. It takes 2.5-3 hrs to Europe and 5-7 hrs to North America on an average
- Sharp rise in tourist inflows in Iceland is putting pressures on infrastructure of the country. Number of infrastructure projects for development of roads, train, airport and social infrastructure has been envisaged by the government which creates opportunity for private players over next decade. Tender for these projects is expected within next few years (2019-2022)
- OMXIPI includes all shares listed on OMX Nordic Exchange Iceland. Declining trend of the OMXIPI index over the last one year exhibits marginal slowdown of economy.
